Baby swings are a place where mom or dad can put junior for a little while – generally no more than 30 minutes at a time. This gives baby a chance to see a new environment. While being fully supported or “cocooned” other than in their parents arms or their bed.

Usually from about 6 months of age your baby will start to want to move. Not just reaching for objects but with full determination to get to an object – or staircase – that they shouldn’t have.

Once infants start to want to move, baby swings become obsolete and you will need to get a playpen for them. This allows babies the space to move but still be confined and safe.

Please remember to use the safety harness when using any product that provides one. Babies can start to move and wiggle very quickly.

We’ll go over 5 baby swings that we feel are the best value and quality for you and note their weight limits for each unit.

OUR TOP 5 BABY SWINGS AND THEIR WEIGHT LIMIT

1. Graco DuoGlider

The Graco DuoGlider is our top pick for baby swings. This baby swing has a weight limit of 30 pounds which is one of the heaviest on the market.

What we really like about this baby swing is that you can easily pull the base of the swing down to fully recline and make a rocker. This makes it very versatile. It can be used for very young infants to 6 – 8 months.

It is recommended that babies don’t habitually sleep in their swings. This unit almost becomes a crib when fully reclined.

Babies are fully enclosed in the swing capsule. This is a really good safety feature. Babies won’t get knocked or their legs caught on anything.

We also like the vibration and movement of this swing. These are really good at calming an unsettled baby. Remember, if your baby is really upset they want you, not a swing. But we feel babies respond well to these movements.

OUR SAY…It is a bit more expensive than the other models but has a higher weight limit and we feel that it is really good value. It is a very sturdy construction and having a full recline means you can use it for very young babies. Having their legs inside the enclosure is a really good safety feature.

If you can afford the extra cost we think you will be glad you did.

2. Fisher-Price Infant to Toddler Rocker

The Fisher-Price Infant to Toddler Rocker is a baby swing for BIG babies. This baby swing will hold a 40 pound infant comfortably. That is a big baby! This is the only baby swing we could find that would hold that weight limit.

The swing is very sturdy construction and Fisher-Price has the quality we all know.

Like most swings, the baby’s legs hang over the edge. This swing is big enough to accommodate long babies as well.

It does have a fully reclined position for very young infants but we feel it is more suited to a slightly older baby.

Very easy to fold and carry with one arm. Good, easy to wash and spot clean material.

One thing that we really like is…older children can use this. We had a 3 year old sitting in it quite happily watching TV, so for that reason this is great value. You can use this unit for a long time.

OUR SAY…We really like this baby swing for big babies because of the 40 pound weight limit and it is sturdy and well put together. You can use it for your newborn but we feel the value is in using it when your baby becomes a toddler.

Also good if you have other young children because of the upper weight limit. Its easy for you to fold and store when you’re not using it.

A great price and good value for money.

3. 4moms mamaRoo 4 Baby Swing

The 4moms mamaRoo 4 Baby Swing will hold a weight limit of 25 pounds. That is the size of an average 6-8 month old infant. You will find by the time they get to this age they will want to be on the floor playing with toys and trying to move.

It has the unique bounce and sway movement that mimics a parent when they’re comforting their baby. This is a really good feature. You can also change the movement with bluetooth on your smartphone.

The seat will fully recline but we feel that in this position it still isn’t really suitable for a newborn. Better for a 6 week+ age.

Can be a little bulky to store in its upright state.

Easy to clean material.

OUR SAY…It is for an average size baby with the 25 pound weight limit. We really like the bounce and sway motion that mimics mom or dad cradling junior.

We feel the technology on this unit just detracts from the overall experience of a baby swing. It should be somewhere you can pop babe to give you a break or for a bit of fun for baby. Possibly too many settings that won’t get used.

This is a good unit but we feel the higher price is to cover technology that maybe doesn’t need to be there.

5. Fisher-Price Small Spaces Swing

The Fisher-Price Small Space Swing will hold a weight limit of 25 pounds which is the weight of an average 6 month old baby. A baby swing advertised as small space but it is still big on value.

What we really like about this swing is that it is simple. It is easy to carry and transport and it folds down flat for easy storage.

There are a number of songs and sounds along with a variety of swinging speeds and vibrations. It has all the features that you need for baby to have some fun or the settle without any excess – this is why it is such good value.

We also like the fact that junior’s legs aren’t dangling off the seat. Young infants will be totally supported in the seat. The base is large enough to keep their legs up.

OUR SAY…With a weight limit of 25 pounds this should comfortably hold an average size baby. This swing is simple to use but big on features. It comes in a sturdy triangular construction.

This unit was easy to set up and you can also store it easily out of the way.

It has gentle movements and vibrations.

This easy to use baby swing is good value.

6. Jool Baby “Nova” Baby Swing for Infants

The Nova Baby Swing for Infants will hold up to 24 pounds weight limit which is more suitable for a smaller baby.

The unit is nice looking and quite easy to set up and quite lightweight which makes carrying it around easy.

The baby swing comes with a hood. The hood can also be used to hang toys. What we really like about this unit is the fitted mosquito net that comes with it. This is really handy during the summer months whether you are on vacation or lakeside and want to spend more time outside.

Speed, movement and music are controlled by the bluetooth setting on your smart phone. It also comes with a remote control for your convenience or you can use the touch pad. This is a good feature if you are cooking in the kitchen and need a couple of extra minutes to finish what you’re doing.

We did find that there wasn’t a lot of difference between the speeds. This is not necessary a negative. You don’t want big movements but if 5 speeds are advertised you should be able to get 5 different speeds.

Babies legs are supported inside the “cocoon” shape.

OUR SAY…There are a lot of good features with this swing. It was easy to assemble and move around. It is better suited to a smaller sized infant.

A smaller unit and has a weight limit under 24 pounds.

The mosquito net is a big winner for us as there is nothing worse that constantly shooing bugs away when you’re outdoors.

A reasonable price for the amount of technology it comes with. Good value unit.
